BLACK ENTERPRISE seeks a well-rounded Associate Digital Editor with 2-3 years of experience writing and editing content for the web. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to write, report and edit a wide range of content from start to finish, and have experience using WordPress. Candidates should also possess a high level of social media savvy – and the instinct to identify and pursue new social growth channels.
Duties
- Write 10 posts a week
- Pitch ideas in daily edit meetings, write articles for blackenterprise.com
- Draft email correspondence to staff editors, writers, freelancers, contributor network, etc.
- Help maintain website, from updating homepage to adapting magazine articles for web
- Assist with social media channels, such as Twitter and Facebook Live
- Build stories in WordPress CMS, leveraging GIFs, video, graphics and emerging interactive tools wherever beneficial
- Utilize SEO strategies and performance metrics to optimize content and identify new opportunities
- Compose social media copy and pitch in on social campaigns and community outreach, as needed
- Write weekend coverage as needed
- Other administrative tasks as directed by Digital Managing Editor
Qualifications
- Exceptional writing skills and working well under pressure
- 2 – 3 years working in digital editorial
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Proven ability to hit key traffic goals; skilled at using analytics tools like Google Analytics, SocialFlow, Slack, Parsely, Omniture
- Strong editorial judgment, writing skills, and knowledge of the BE voice, POV, and audience
- Proficiency in WordPress, Photoshop, web analytics and SEO
- Ability to strategize and develop new brand-based initiatives that drive conversions
- Social media know-how, with a strong understanding of what’s shareable
- A passion for business and news, and improving our users’ lives for the better
